We are seeking a skilled and proactive Reactive Maintenance Supervisor to lead and manage a team of maintenance technicians in ensuring the smooth operation of machinery, equipment, and systems within our facilities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as a proven track record of managing a team in a fast-paced, reactive maintenance environment. This role is key to minimising downtime and ensuring operational efficiency during unplanned breakdowns.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and Lead Maintenance Team: Oversee and manage a team of technicians responsible for reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Reactive Maintenance Execution: Respond to emergency repair requests and ensure rapid and effective resolution of equipment breakdowns and system failures.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Quickly identify and diagnose issues with machinery, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and other critical equipment, ensuring timely repairs and minimal downtime.
  • Work Scheduling and Prioritization: Coordinate and prioritize maintenance tasks, ensuring the most urgent repairs are handled promptly while maintaining overall workflow.
  • Preventive Maintenance: While the role focuses on reactive tasks, work alongside the preventive maintenance team to identify areas for proactive maintenance to avoid future failures.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Team Development: Provide training, guidance, and support to maintenance staff, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Track team performance and maintenance work, providing regular reports to senior management on key metrics, including downtime, repair costs, and team productivity.
  • Resource Management: Manage the allocation of tools, spare parts, and equipment to ensure that maintenance tasks are completed without delays due to resource shortages.
  • Vendor and Contractor Coordination: When necessary, coordinate with external vendors or contractors for specialized repairs and services.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, inventory levels, and compliance with safety standards.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in a hands-on maintenance role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Experience in a fast-paced reactive maintenance environment is highly preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment and machinery.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate a team of technicians. Ability to delegate tasks, monitor team performance, and handle conflict.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills. Ability to quickly identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
  • Health & Safety: Thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, with the ability to ensure compliance during all maintenance activities.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with team members, management, and external contractors.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or other maintenance software. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) for reporting and documentation.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in maintenance, such as City & Guilds, NVQ, or HNC/HND in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. Certifications in health and safety (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) are a plus.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to perform hands-on maintenance work, including lifting, standing for long periods, and using various tools and equipment.
